TruckPol :: Policing Road Freight Crime

Road freight crime is of increasing concern to both law enforcement and industry. Highly organised crime groups are involved and the value of losses continues to escalate as well as instances of violent attacks against drivers. This has a significant impact on the UK economy, through direct and indirect costs to business, the effect on the way the UK is perceived by multinational companies and by supplying the grey economy with stolen goods.

27th April 2008 -  Lucky Escape for LGV Driver

This incident happened at around 22.15hrs on Sunday 21st April 2008. The LGV driver was on the Elkmill Roundabout slip road at Royton going into Broadway on the A663 towards Oldham, Lancashire.

The driver stated he heard two loud bangs and then the two points of impact on his windscreen. He saw no-one in the area and carried on, without stopping, back to the DC. The damage looks consistent with some sort of weapon, possibly an airgun or similar. Greater Manchester Police are investigating.
